Sponsored by the Ovid-Elsie Strategic Planning Committee
The purpose of this brick fundraiser is three-fold. First, it is being used to commemorate when Ovid and Elsie combined school districts in 1967 and became Ovid-Elsie Area Schools. The joining of the two villages commenced with the building and opening of the middle school and high school. The O-E Memorial Monument giftbricks will be inlaid at the football stadium, at the schools’ site. Second, it is being used to replace four sections of slate at the football stadium. This will take time to do as sections can only be done as bricks are sold and the revenue is generated to fund each section. The third is to generate enough revenue to not only replace the four sections of slate, but also keep the monument maintained.
Purchasing a brick is a fantastic way to celebrate and remember anyone who has been associated with the Ovid, Elsie, and surrounding communities. There are 21 simple symbols, including O-E’s mascot, the Marauder, to choose from in an effort to personalize your giftbrick(s) in any way you would like.
With your donation, you will be able to personalize a brick. Both upper and lower case characters may be utilized. There are four brick sizes which vary from the standard brick size of 4” x 8” available for $55 to the largest size of 24” x 24” for $575. Logos can be added on the larger bricks for an additional $75. The bricks come in hues of red and grey. They will be laser inscribed and epoxy filled with the color of your choice. The epoxy fill allows for a lifetime guarantee.
Please order your brick(s) through this website utilizing PayPal or the “Print Order and Mail Payment” option. This will ensure that your brick order is customized to your liking and not subject to typing/spelling errors.
Questions and Answers
I don’t have a computer. Can you mail a form to me? We prefer to have the orders placed directly through the website; however, we can provide a paper form for those without a computer/internet access. Please stop in for a form at the Ovid-Elsie Area Schools Administration Office, across from the football stadium and pressbox, during office hours. Please make sure you check the summer hours schedule if you need a form during the summer months.
My brother and I are splitting the cost – can we pay separately for one brick? The system isn’t set up that way. Your brother will have to pay you, and you’ll have to submit the entire payment.
I want to purchase several bricks as gifts throughout the year, is that possible? Yes. First, we encourage you to purchase as many bricks as you want; this memorial will be a standing legacy. Second, you can purchase a brick at any time. If you have several to buy and need to budget, try purchasing one a month or as you can afford them as an option.
Does the brick have to have a student’s name on it who attended Ovid-Elsie Area Schools? No. This memorial is for ANY person who has had any contact with the Ovid-Elsie area and the surrounding communities that feed into its school district. It is a memorial for everyone and is meant to be inclusive. In fact, the 21 symbols that can be added to each brick were chosen to represent the entire community. For example, they include various sports symbols, tractor, cross, flag, graduation cap, and even a cow.
I’d like to put a symbol on the brick – is that possible? Yes. There are 21 symbols available to choose from without an additional charge, but the symbol is considered part of the allotted number of spaces available. When you place your order, your brick design will pop up on the screen. Symbols will be placed on lines. A symbol equals about four (4) spaces, so you need to plan for that when choosing your message. Please use the “NOTES” field to describe where you would like your symbol placed or if you want more than one and where these will be placed. Note that each brick size has a specific number of lines and characters (letters) that can be used.
My company would like to purchase a larger brick and add the company logo. Can I do that? Yes. Please email the company logo in a PDF file to OEMemorial@ovidelsie.org and we’ll make sure it’s on the brick. There is an additional $75 charge for this. Logos can only be put on bricks that are 8” x 8” or larger.
How long are the bricks going to be at this special price and available for sale? The Strategic Planning Committee will not be changing the price for at least one year from May, 2013. The suggested retail donation for the 4” x 8” brick was $100. The committee decided that it was more important to allow the bricks to be as affordable as possible, so the price was set at $55 for the 4” x 8”. All the other sizes also have a lower cost than was suggested. This project is ongoing, so there is not a deadline.
Can I choose which section my brick is going to go in? No. However, the first section to be constructed will be at the left-hand side of the pressbox when looking at it from the student parking lot. You can’t choose where your brick can be placed, but since this is the first section there is a great chance your brick will be placed in it if it’s within the first 1,000 needed to start the project. The other sections will follow as revenue is generated. The second section will start underneath the pressbox and go to the north. The goal is to renovate the second section and place non-stamped bricks in it and as bricks are bought, the regular bricks will be replaced with the giftbricks. In time, when we have enough giftbricks to complete all four sections, we will find another place to continue the memorial monument.
What if I change my mind about what I put on the brick? You need to contact us ASAP via email (OEMemorial@ovidelsie.org) and we will make the change. If the brick is in production there is a $10 fee to make a new stencil. If the brick has already been made, there is no option for a refund.
When will the first section of the memorial be put in? Will someone let me know? The first goal for section one was May, 2014. However, if we can sell the equivalent of 1,000 bricks in an effort to pay for the renovation and construction of the first section by Fall 2013, we will try to start while the weather is good. There are variables on the timeline. We have hired a local contractor to construct the monument. Once the first section is complete, you’ll be sent an email notification.
I’m giving this brick as a (holiday) gift. How do you suggest I notify somebody of this? We’ll be able to send you a PDF certificate (via email) that you can print out. It will have all of the information on it as well as a picture of what the brick will look like.
Is the money being generated being spent on anything else? The majority of the money is going right to the construction and maintenance of the project. There are additional marketing fees that will also be covered. Monies will not be put into the general fund and will not fund anything outside of the parameters of this project. (Note: This is also a fundraiser for the Class of 2016 and $5.00 per brick will be put toward prom and their senior trip and other expenditures related to that class. This donation will end when the class graduates.)
You have “with your donation” at the top. Is this donation tax deductible? Yes. The school district is non-profit, therefore purchasing a giftbrick for this project is considered a donation and can be used as tax deduction.
